John Quiñones, the series’s host, watches the reactions of strangers as they are confronted with character-testing situations staged for the show. Season 4 begins with a 30-year-old tutor’s being inappropriately affectionate with her teenage student; war protesters heckling a young man volunteering for military duty; gay bullying; and a mother who brings her child to a bar and then drinks too much.

Margaret Hoover, a conservative commentator and great-granddaughter of Herbert Hoover; Lawrence O’Donnell, the anchor of MSNBC’s “Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell”; and Reihan Salam, a conservative political journalist, are seated at the roundtable. Former President Jimmy Carter and the actor Zach Galifianakis are the interview guests.
