RUMOR: Comcast In Talks To Buy NBC - Mashable.com
According to The Wrap, Comcast is currently in talks to buy the entertainment powerhouse that is NBC-Universal from its current owner, General Electric. There have been rumors that NBC-Universal were on the selling block, but Comcast is still a bit of a shocker.
The Wrap describes a meeting between Comcast and NBC-Universal that its sources say was meant to hammer out a deal that would send the news and movie conglomerate to Comcast for $35 billion dollars. According to some sources, the deal is already done.
The deal makes some sense for Comcast – it has the distribution channels to really push NBC-Universal across TVs and the web. However, Comcast isn’t that adept at entertainment and managing actors, writers, and studios. Then again, General Electric doesn’t strike us as an entertainment giant, either. Ge may be looking to get rid of a depreciating asset, as Universal Studios has done poorly this summer and NBC has been cutting back.
