As Dave Weigel pointed out two weeks ago, Barber [who is in a run-off for the GOP nomination in Alabama’s second district has] been dialing up some shady spirits on his ouija board. Had this been the actual ghost of Abraham Lincoln, he would have said to Barber: “Dude, what are you talking about? On August 5, 1861, I signed the Revenue Act into law, ‘imposing the first federal income tax in U.S. history,’ precisely for the purpose of raising money to fight the Civil War. Hey, refresh my memory, but what side of that were y’all on, again?”
