AT&T: Hello “valued customer.” We got nothin’ for ya.

On the phone with AT&T 2 minutes ago:

AT&T: Hello Mr. Wade, we first want to thank you for being a valued customer, blah, blah, blah.

Me: Hi, my contract is up in August and I know I’m going to upgrade to an iPhone 4 soon. But with my entire family using Verizon, I wanted to know if you can offer me any incentives to stay with AT&T and not switch?

AT&T: Nope, we don’t offer any incentives.

Me: Ok, have a nice day.

Am I crazy or are they completely nuts?

AT&T Website Stops Selling iPhone in New York City [REPORT] - Mashable.com

shaneguiter:

AT&T has come up with an ingenious solution to the congestion on its network in New York: stop selling the iPhone there!

The AT&T website has stopped offering phones to the New York metropolitan area, and entering a zipcode from there delivers the message that it is “unavailable” in that area, according to a blog report.

After verifying this on the AT&T Wireless website, the Consumerist blog called up AT&T customer service and had this conversation:

Daphne: Welcome to AT&T online Sales support. How may I assist you with placing your order today?

Laura: Hi, I was looking at the iPhone 3Gs and the system tells me that I cannot order one in my ZIP code. My zip code is 11231. (Brooklyn, NY) Is this true? Are iPhones no longer available in New York City?

Daphne: I am happy to be helping you today . Yes, this is correct the phone is not offered to you because New York is not ready for the iPhone.

…I was astonished to discover that I had managed to get things exactly wrong. Despite the well-publicized problems in New York and San Francisco, AT&T seems to have the superior network nationwide.

And the iPhone itself may not be so great after all. Its design is contributing to performance problems.

Roger Entner, senior vice president for telecommunications research at Nielsen, said the iPhone’s “air interface,” the electronics in the phone that connect it to the cell towers, had shortcomings that “affect both voice and data.” He said that in the eyes of the consumer, “the iPhone has the nimbus of infallibility, ergo, it’s AT&T’s fault.” AT&T does not publicly defend itself because it will not criticize Apple under any circumstances, he said. AT&T and Apple both declined to comment on Mr. Entner’s assessments.

Wha? Wha?

ok, i realize after you receive or purchase (mine was a gift) an expensive product nobody wants to hear you bitch about the price or ensuing costs. but wtf!?!

iPhone, AT&T: “activation fee” $35 truly sucks but then to make matters worse the taxes on that 35 brought it to $52. $12 worth of taxes on a $35 charge. un-fuckin-real.

sry, done bitchin’ i love the god damn thing
