The president feels, we feel at the White House, this is a distraction, as Congressman Weiner has said himself, his behavior was inappropriate, dishonesty was inappropriate.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney • responding to Weinergate. He didn’t go so far as to say Weiner should resign, though. It seems like the White House is pretty upset about this whole thing, which is understandable. Obama just made a speech about jobs today, and it’s easy to imagine him being fed up with Weiner getting all this press. Not only is Weiner’s situation bugging Democrats, but he’s taking press away from Obama. source (viafollow)

Several supposed Liberals have demanded that Weiner resign immediately because of the difficult position in which he has placed the minority leader, as if Weiner’s contributions to Progressive causes in this country were insignificant and irrelevant.

Even public opinion polls have, well – what else? – an opinion. Only 30% of New Yorkers in a Marist Poll said he should resign, while nearly two thirds of them said he apologized only because he got caught.

And, of course, odious blackmailers like Andrew Breitbart have said Weiner and other liberals are hypocrites. He in particular added he was holding back additional photographs out of decency. And then he showed those photographs the next day. But Weiner is the hypocrite. This is to be remembered when Breitbart’s fall finally comes – prediction: it will involve handcuffs, and not in the way he might enjoy them.

Now, Minority Leader Pelosi and other leading House Democrats have done what their Republican colleagues would never do: they too have urged Weiner to resign, for what appears to be about the 45th worst sex scandal among politicians in the last five or six years. Senators Jon Ensign and David Vitter make Weiner look like a celibate, and we have yet to hear a Republican demand either of them go.

(…)

But if there is nothing further to the Weiner story, if what we know is all there is, I have actually done what so many fear to do these days, and sat around and thought about something for a week. And now I think I know what I think — not demand, not insist, not preach — Anthony Weiner should do.

For it, I turn improbably back to the man who put the “cant” back in “Cantor,” the House Majority Leader: Let the people decide.

Keith Olbermann, Advice To Anthony Weiner: Resign, Then Run Again

Dear Debbie Wasserman Schultz

dragonflyb:

I cannot tell you how many hours I have spent dedicated to the cause of the Democratic Party. I am a party loyalist in Texas. In Texas, where the fight is hard, the hours are long, and the victories few. I live vicariously through people in bluer states and I have pride in all of our Representatives and Senators that serve our party with distinction.

One of the corner stones of the DNC’s policies that I have always agreed with and loved, has been that, we fight for the right to let consenting adults be consenting adults. That we fight against ridiculous laws that put government in our bedrooms or behind our locked doors. We are supposed to be fighting that fight right now, on behalf of our LGBT sisters and brothers.

So, how is it that we can stand in hypocrisy, and ask for Representative Weiner’s resignation?  Why are you caving yet again?  Representative Weiner, who has had balls of steel where the DNC has been lacking as of late.  Is he a target?  Yes.  Should you condone his behaviour?  Honestly?  You should be releasing a different kind of statement, in that, you should be telling the American people that you stand with Anthony Weiner on a professional level, though you are disappointed in how he has acted on a personal level.

There is blood in the water and our political opponents can smell it.  They’re feeding on it, because rather than pull the bloodied and beaten body out of the water, you are circling it with chum and egging on the feeding. I cannot believe how you and the Democratic Representatives and Senators are behaving.

The America I know and love is not one that sits in judgment on a man who has private issues that must be dealt with by him and his family.  The America I know is a group of people that stands up to people who attempt to oppress their friends and extoll the virtues and the qualities that make someone like Representative Weiner effective.  Instead, you’re willing to hang him out to dry. Why?

I have never been more disappointed in the Democratic National Committee than I am today. Calling on a man who has committed no crime to resign from an office that he was elected to is not only disappointing, it’s angering. Now, I may not agree with Representative Weiner’s conduct or actions in his personal life, but honestly? That’s not for me to judge. If we asked all of the politicians that carried on inappropriate relationships to resign, there would be no one left to govern.

If this is really the stance of the DNC, where is the call for Senator Vitter’s resignation?

Why is it, in tough times, the GOP will rally around its people, while the DNC feeds them to the sharks?  When are you finally going to learn that we have to stick together, fight together, and be strong together?

If you persist in calling for Representative Weiner’s resignation, I will be forced to seriously consider whether or not I want to continue to work on behalf of DNC policies or support them monetarily. It’s not just Representative Weiner that’s in the hot seat, you are, as well.

Sincerely,

The girl who has been a proud Democrat in Texas since she was sixteen years old, but who is disgustingly disappointed in her party today.

…Delaware cops descended on the home of a 17-year-old high school junior to ask her about online communications she had with Weiner.

“They were made aware of an alleged contact between Congressman Anthony Weiner and an area teen,” said New Castle County police spokeswoman Officer Tracey Duffy.

“The teen has been interviewed and disclosed no information regarding any criminal activity…”

The girl’s mother, whose name is being withheld, told The Post Wednesday that Weiner sent nothing obscene — and sent only two brief messages to her daughter about seeing him during an April school trip to the Capitol…

“None of us will be getting our 15 minutes of fame because of this nonsense,” the mom said. “Representative Weiner never tweeted her anything inappropriate … That is the answer, honestly.”

I’m sure the New York Post was crushed to have to report this; the Murdoch rag has featured front-page hit pieces on Weiner for six days in a row. — Ryking
