Unusual objects prompt lock down of White House
DEVELOPING: “Smoking objects” found nearby have prompted the lock down of the White House, an agent has told POLITICO. [POLITICO]
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were not at the White House at the time of the security incident.
UPDATE 9:38 ET: WRC, the NBC affiliate in Washington, reports the object may have been a smoke bomb. One thousand protesters are gathered nearby, but it’s unclear if the security scare is related. [WRC]

The Norway situation has gone from bad to worse. Here’s what we know:
- At least 2 are dead after a bomb rocked Oslo’s government building. Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was not in his office at the time.
- However: Prime Minister Stoltenberg was at a Labour party youth camp on the Norwegian island of Utoya at the time of the bombing, attending a conference, and now there are reports of a shooter dressed as a policeman firing shots at the youth camp.
- At least several people at camp have been shot. Their ages and conditions are not known.
