Here’s Cenk Uygur fascinating take on his departure from MSNBC

MSNBC, not surprisingly, told the NYTimes that Uygur’s version of events are false:

In an interview on Wednesday, [MSNBC Pres.] Mr. Griffin denied Mr. Uygur’s accusations and sounded disappointed that he had decided not to accept the weekend position. “We never told Cenk what to say or what not to say,” Mr. Griffin said.

The “people in Washington,” he said, were MSNBC producers who were responsible for booking guests for the 6 p.m. hour, and some of them had said that Mr. Uygur’s aggressive body language and overall demeanor were making it harder to book guests. “The conversation was, ‘Hey, look, here’s how we can make it better’ — about physical things on the show,” Mr. Griffin said.

Al Gore and Keith Olbermann should grab Cenk ASAP. He’s talented and unafraid. He fits in perfectly with what CurrentTV claims it wants to be.

Conservative Talk Radio Is Dead (Limbaugh, Beck Ratings Dive)

The Young Turks/MSNBC host Cenk Uygur explains how new (more accurate) radio ratings measurements show that right wing talk radio shows are not doing well.

I can’t say I’m sad that I keep hearing this from people who have been in the industry.

Go public radio!

F**kin’ Commie Pinko TV

Robert Reich: In the short-term we need a more progressive tax system. Let me give you one idea, exempting the first 20,000 dollars of income from the payroll tax. And making up the difference by applying the payroll tax to incomes of people making over 250,000 dollars. Now that would give a lot of people a lot more money in their pockets, if they are working. And that money, in turn would be spent on main-street  and that would create jobs.

Cenk Uygur: Ok, I’m afraid Obama isn’t gonna go anywhere near this. We’ve got news trickling out that they’re (the administration) gonna go for the answer, more tax cuts. Which might actually hurt income inequality and is basically a republican solution. So, how do we turn it around?

Robert Reich: If it turns out, and I don’t have inside information, I’m reading the same articles you have. But if it turns out that one of Obama’s prescriptions is to have a payroll tax holiday, on say the first 20,000 dollars of income. That does get towards what we are talking about. You just make it permanent. Then permanently apply payroll taxes to incomes over 250,000 dollars… You know last year the top 25 hedge fund managers, each of them earned one billion dollars. I mean each of them. You know, one billion dollars can finance 20,000 teachers.

Cenk Uygur: God bless ‘em. It’s America, we all wanna earn one billion dollars. The question is, does it make sense for society if they get to keep a disproportionate amount of that or if we can create more opportunities for more people to earn a billion dollars, if we redistribute it for education, etc.

Robert Reich: Cenk, you’re exactly right. My position is, even the rich will stand to to do better if they have a smaller share of an economy that is growing very fast, than if they have a big share of an economy that is basically static.

Dr. Bigot Laura quotes:

“If you’re gay or lesbian it’s a biological error.”

“Feminism destroyed the sanctity of motherhood.”

Speaking on a 1999 broadcast, Schlessinger talked to a caller concerned about what she should do with her autistic son:
“Denise, I’m going to say something now that you need to hear. You need to have a life aside from this torture…Your son may not be fixable. In which case you’re going to have to think of some kind of placement.”

“One of the first things you do is rename behaviors or what have you. Once you rename it… It’s like in Vietnam, I remember quite clearly. Instead of calling them North Vietnamese, South Vietnamese, Communist or what have you, they started calling the Vietnamese agents gooks. One of the reasons you call them gooks is because it’s easy to kill a gook, harder to kill a person. So in changing the name of the thing, it changes how we perceive it and how we can behave toward it. When we have the word homosexual, we are clarifying the dysfunction, the deviancy, the reality.”

Responding to a fax sent into her show in 1999 that said that pedophilia has nothing to do with sexual orientation, Dr.Laura said: “That is not true. How many letters have I read on the air from gay men who acknowledge that a huge portion of the male homosexual populace is predatory on young boys?”

“When the wife does not focus in on the needs and the feelings, sexually, personally, to make him feel like a man, to make him feel like a success, to make him feel like her hero, he’s very susceptible to the charm of some other woman making him feel what he needs.”

What a shame it is that she’s going off the air.

Some of them [at Fox News] are racist, and some of them aren’t.

Because what they’re doing is race-baiting. Basically, they, they have had a narrative going on for quite some time, I think the most famous kickoff was Glenn Beck saying that Barack Obama hated white people, what they’re doing is appealing to people’s basest instincts, racial hatred. Racial hatred is something that’s, that’s something, it’s endemic in the country, but we’ve really gone way past it now. We’ve made huge progress, but there are still a fringe of people who are, who have great fears about race. And what they’re doing is feeding those fears.

Bill O’Reilly Apologizes, Attacks Sherrod break it down Cenk

(via TheYoungTurks)

I originally posted a tweet that read something like, ‘O’Reilly apologizes for jumping the gun with the Shirley Sharrod story’. Although I know BillO is a disingenuous blow-hard I try to be fair. If he apologized then solid, at least he owned up to a mistake. Shit happens and in this case A LOT of people jumped the gun. But I had to delete the tweet (that sounds kinda Johnny Cochranesque, hat tip PPG) because later that night I watched BillO’s “apology” and it was riddled with bullshit. Different day, same BillO. Shoulda known better.
