“The far left is people who believe 9/11 was an inside job. The far right is people who believe Obama’s a Muslim socialist. But I can’t name ANY elected democratic leaders who believe 9/11 was an inside job. But republican leaders who believe Obama’s a socialist? ALL of them!”

New poll brings bad news for Republicans
- -6 Obama’s net favorability, as of this month
- -7 The Democratic Party’s favorability
- -25 The Republican Party’s favorability source
» Why no love for the GOP? Over the last six months, everybody—Obama, Democrats, and Republicans—has seen a net drop in their approval ratings, but Republicans are clearly the most hated of the bunch. This is probably due to a combination of factors: Paul Ryan’s budget proposal, Scott Walker’s anti-union antics in Wisconsin, and the GOP’s handling of the debt ceiling debate were all high-profile issues that attracted (mostly) negative attention to the GOP. Whatever the cause, there’s one thing we can glean from these results: Democrats seem to be out-messaging Republicans in 2011. Whether or not this can carry Obama to reelection amidst a horrible economy remains to be seen.
“Will the Democrats take this as a chance to go on offense? Will national Democrats take a lesson from Wisconsin Democrats?” —Rachel Maddow.

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, said Sunday morning that he was “very close” to recommending to his members that they sign on to a debt deal with President Obama and the Democrats.
Speaking on the CNN program “State of the Union,” Mr. McConnell said the deal included as much as $3 trillion in cuts over the next 10 years, with much of that decided later this year by a joint congressional committee.
“What conservatives want to do is cut spending,” he said. “We’ve come a long way. This agreement is likely to encompass up to $3 trillion is spending cuts.”
In addition, Mr. McConnell said the agreement would allow votes in Congress on a balanced budget amendment.
Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, a top Democrat in the Senate, cautioned on the same program that “there is no final agreement. No one has signed off on a final agreement.”
But he indicated the he and others were expressing optimism because of the ongoing discussions between the congressional leaders.
“If there is a word that would sum up the mood it would be relief,” he said. “Relief that we won’t default.”

Today, “progress” is partly defined by how slowly we get there.
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY), in a four-minute press conference, again apologized to his wife Huma for sending several photos of himself to women on Twitter and resigned from the US Congress. [ABC News video]
At this point, 9 Democratic leaders have called for Anthony Weiner’s resignation:
- Former DNC Chairman and Virginia senate candidate Tim Kaine: “Lying is unforgivable,” Kaine told CBS-19, a Charlottesville, Va., television station. “Lying publicly about something like this is unforgiveable, and he should resign.”
- Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.): “Ahh… It would be fine with me if he did. I mean, ultimately that’s up to him and his constituents and his family, but, um… I think at this point it would probably be a good thing if he would (go) ahead and resign.”
- Rep Allyson Scwartz (D-Pa.): “Having the respect of your constituents is fundamental for a member of Congress. In light of Anthony Weiner’s offensive behavior online, he should resign.”
- Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.): “I think he should have resigned immediately following the statement that he made …” Ross said after a speech Wednesday afternoon in Pine Bluff. “I’m very disappointed in his actions. I think he should resign immediately, and I think all the appropriate authorities should investigate this matter.”
- Rep. Niki Tsongas (D-Mass.): “The congresswoman thinks it would be appropriate for Congressman Weiner to step down,” said Tsongas’s spokeswoman.
- Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.): “Enough is enough,” said Donnelly. “It’s time for Congressman Weiner to resign. Everyone should be focused on jobs and the economy and his refusal to do the right thing is a distraction.”
- Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.): believes Weiner’s resignation would be in the best interest of the constituents and U.S. House. Leahy is in favor of the House Ethics Committee Investigation but would like to see Weiner resign voluntarily, according to a report from The Republic.
- Rep. Larry Kissell (D-N.C.): Kissell spokesman Christopher Shuler said Wednesday the Democrat believes Weiner should step down from office.
- Rep. Michael H. Michaud (D-Maine): “I am hoping that the congressman will do what’s right for his family, and probably the best decision would be to step down,” said Michaud during a tour of the State House.
Yeah, if only we had a time machine so maybe they could toss Bill Clinton under the bus. Real gutsy guys. This makes me more ashamed of being a Dem than anything Weiner has done. Bleh!
“
You’re forgetting that the Democrats are a dynamic, innovative party, constantly thinking of new ways to fuck up a sure thing. I believe the Democrats will try to usurp the tea party’s folksiness by throwing a working man-themed fundraiser, where the likes of Sean Penn and Barbara Streisand dine on panko-crusted mahi mahi in the back of Will.I.Am’s stretch Prius. Whilst the bald eagle they rented, to provide a patriotic flare, attacks a group of nearby handicapped schoolchildren, forcing the front-running, can’t-lose Democratic candidate to beat that bald eagle to death in front of live television cameras with the nearest large book he can find, which is — you know it — a Koran.
”John Oliver - The Daily Show Debates: How Will The Dems F—- Up Tea Party Primary Wins?
“…while I appreciate the concern over the future of civility in politics, I believe a little raw anger right now is justified. Democrats make a mistake by pretending there is a bipartisan spirit in Congress these days, and would be better served by calling out Republican shams.
The specifics of the debate last week should be an example of an issue beyond partisan dispute. The bill in question was created to help the thousands of citizens who went to ground zero after the Sept. 11 attacks. These are Americans who wanted to help, and who scientific studies now show are falling ill and dying in troubling numbers.”

Rep. Anthony Weiner, sporting a Mets jersey, makes a heck of play here and helps the Democrats beat the Republicans 13-5 at Tuesday’s 49th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park.
Weiner also scored the go-ahead run for the Democrats.
Obviously, there is racism and fear involved in the immigration issue and that is, I think, represented by the 32% opposed to a path to citizenship. Phrases like “secure the border” and “illegal immigration” help to polarize the issue. I mean, who isn’t for “securing,” well, anything? Also, “illegal” or “illegals” makes them sound as though they were criminals before they even stepped foot in the USA. So, it looks as though it’s in the hands of the wordsmiths now. Dems need a non-satanic Frank Luntz. If presented the right way it seems to me that immigration reform should pass. The President and the Dems can score on this, not just by adding another accomplishment but also securing the Hispanic vote for years to come.
Poll: Americans want Democrats to control Congress after November elections
According to an Associated Press-GfK poll released on Saturday, Americans want Democrats to control Congress after this fall’s elections, which represents a shift from April.
The tenuous 45 percent to 40 percent preference for a Democratic Congress reverses the finding a month ago on the same question: 44 percent for Republicans and 41 percent for Democrats. The new readout came as the economy continued showing signs of improvement and the tumultuous battle over the health care law that President Barack Obama finally signed in March faded into the background.
“The problem with the Democrats in a lot of ways is, they want to win a fight without taking a punch. You know? You gotta get hit to win. You want to really knock somebody out? You gotta get close enough for them to hit you.” - Chris Rock
Murdoch Stumped!
Watch here Fox News’ head honcho Rupert Murdoch stumble and mumble as he can’t name a single Democrat who works for his “Fair and Balanced” “news” network. He had earlier claimed that MSNBC and CNN lean left while employing Democrats and his network hires people from both sides. Thus the fair and you know… He could have named Juan Williams and Bob Beckel I guess, but that would have fit under the rarely used “contributor” category. There are no strong left leaning voices on Fox and Murdoch knows it.
I have to admit I loved watching Murdoch squirm like this, even though I know he doesn’t give a rat’s ass. Murdoch, I believe, is all about dollars and cents. If he truly believed hiring left leaning loudmouths would fill his already deep pockets he would not hesitate for a second in doing so.
and we are told over and over again that America is a center right country. by what measurement is that so?
