“While this may seem like an innocent prank to some, it was an act of torment against a child for being different. We expect the people we elect to be leaders in the charge against bullying so that all students are afforded the right to learn and grow in an environment free of fear. This incident calls into question whether Mitt Romney can be an advocate for the nation’s most vulnerable children.”

The end of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” summed up in a single video
The first day of a new military reality: It’s easy, especially when major civil rights policy comes down to a big, dramatic vote, to check the “accomplished” box and move along. In the case of the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, this would have been considerably premature, as it wasn’t until midnight this morning that the ban was finally lifted. Congratulations to all the people who’ve had the weight of a big injustice pulled off their shoulders by this. The above video was recorded hours after the ban was lifted, and is a pretty emotional scene to watch unfold; a soldier, finally able to state his sexuality without discrimination from the military, calls his father to come out to his family. Be warned, it might make you a bit misty-eyed. source

Michele Bachmann is the latest presidential hopeful who has been “glittered.”
The protest was carried out by Minneapolis gay-rights activist Rachel E.B. Lang, who approached Bachmann and twice flung glitter toward her.
Bachmann continued her stride unbroken and kept her eyes fixed on people she intended to greet.
“You can run, but you can’t hide,” Lang shouted as a member of security hustled her away.
In Covering Ken Mehlman Story, MSNBC Anchor Admits He Is Gay
Thomas Roberts: I think for probably most heterosexual Americans this isn’t going to come as a big deal, but I think for millions of gay and lesbian Americans — me included — find this to be kind of a shocking admission, especially when Mehlman’s leadership, in the positions that he held, came at a time when he was part of talks that would have put discrimination into the Constitution. When they were ramping up anti gay rhetoric and now he wants to come out say, ‘hey I’m one of you.’ So how does he go about trying to get millions of gay and lesbian Americans to believe that he is not just a big hypocrite.
“Jersey Shore” crew were out grocery shopping and doing laundry, a prankster decided to place a sign reading “Gay Men On Board” to the back of their car in Seaside Heights, NJ. “Jersey Shore” Guidos Vinny Guadagnino and Paul “DJ Pauly D” Delvecchio were the first to discover the gay rights sign taped to the back of their black Cadillac Escalade… The sign also read “Gay rights is all we ask.” Continue reading… NY Post
“I think if we allow our soldiers to be open, and serve in the military, it would clear up a lot of stuff. First of all the USO show would get much better…Plus, It’s not gonna make the military softer or anything. We’re soldiers. We’re talking– Yeah they’re gay, but you know, we’re not talking RuPaul or Elton John gay. We’re talking like, Brokeback Mountain gay!” - Wanda Sykes on Real Time with Bill Maher.

“Like many of you who live in New Jersey, I’ve been following the progress of the marriage-equality legislation currently being considered in Trenton. I’ve long believed in and have always spoken out for the rights of same sex couples and fully agree with Governor Corzine when he writes that, ‘The marriage-equality issue should be recognized for what it truly is — a civil rights issue that must be approved to assure that every citizen is treated equally under the law.’”

“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” will “likely” be ended next year, in the 2010 defense spending bill.
“Military issues are always done as part of the overall authorization bill,” Frank said, insisting that this has been the strategy for overturning the policy all along. “’Don’t ask, don’t tell’ was always going to be part of the military authorization.”
