YES! This is happening and I am too pumped!
Link: My First Hate Comment
There were days in 2007, when the level of criticism I was getting on MetsBlog.com was so bad, so mean, I considered giving up writing the blog. I mean, you would have thought I played for the team.
In time, though, I’ve grown confident in what I do, and I can take the criticism for what it is, which is feedback, even if some people tend to be rude and cruel at times. In the end, that person was motivated to sit down, log on, and pound out a scathing e-mail. So, either he is totally delusional, or I am not as perfect as I’d like to think I am.
The truth is, I have a lot to learn as a writer, and the world of blogging and new media is changing every day. So, even if a person is being mean, I try to hear what they’re saying. Usually, there is at least some kernel of truth to every bit of criticism I get. And, even if I know that person is 99.9 percent wrong, he believed it enough to rip me, so the least I can do is listen and respond.
Typically, I respond by asking for an example of what that person is accusing me of, and I always thank them for taking time to contact me. They probably think I am being sarcastic. I am not. I genuinely mean it. Sure, it is part politics, in that I do not want to lose that person as a reader, and, like Gary Vaynerchuk likes to say, ‘We’re all in the customer service business.’ But, I do appreciate the feedback, I really do.
The point is, never ignore a reader, especially people who are passionate enough to reach out to you, even if it is to point out your flaws.
Metsblog is excellent no doubt but you should follow Matt on tumblr regardless. He obviously knows a ton about blogging, he’s a smooth and interesting read. And, for someone who has actually “made it” in this extremely tough field, he is refreshingly modest and down to earth.

The best Mets blog online is Matt Cerrone’s MetsBlog.com. The above link leads to what Matt calls; “a lengthy Q&A with Dominic Pinto from Pessimets.com about how I started MetsBlog.com, when I started it, why, and how I turned it from a hobby in to a full-time job.”
