“I think it is the future of print.”
“New York Times reporter Andrew Goldman: I look at your writers much less than I find myself clicking on stuff that’s been aggregated or the more salacious, boob-related posts.
Arianna Huffington: That’s really a shame. I think you’re missing out.”
John Battelle: I heard blogs are dead.
Matt Mullenweg: I heard that too, on a blog.
A conversation about blogs as the Independent Web, with some time spent on how Tumblr fits into the equation.
Mullenweg is the founder and creator of WordPress, which between WordPress.com and WordPress.org is the most used blogging platform/Content Management System on the Web.
Batelle is the founder of Federated Media, an advertising network focussed on providing solutions to independent media.
Run Time: 18 minutes with 12 minutes of Q&A.
“Buying an aggregator and calling it a content play is a little like a company’s announcing plans to improve its cash position by hiring a counterfeiter.”

HOW TO TELL A JOURNALIST FROM A BLOGGER
You see, it doesn’t really matter what medium you use. You can be a print journalist, a radio journalist, a television journalist, an online journalist — journalism exists in every form of communication. If we were stripped of all media, there would be oral journalism. And as communication continues to evolve to include new forms of media, journalism will evolve along with it.
I’ll say at the outset: A journalist is not distinguished by the medium of his or her publication.
What, then, are the tell-tale signs of a professional journalist?

The sad thing is, when this ad was probably created, Mike Francesa was the ‘new guy,’ in a new industry, ‘sports talk radio,’ getting ripped by old school newspaper guys who dismissed what he and WFAN were trying to do.
Yet, here we are today, 20 years later, and Francesa is dismissing people like me, other bloggers, people who use Twitter, etc., and basically saying the same thing about new media that people said about him and his industry when he was younger.

THE NEW MEDIA WORKOUT PLAN
THE PROBLEM:
I’ve recently found myself checking the following websites an unhealthy amount.
THE IDEA:
Every time you open a new tab to check out one of the following websites, stop. Get up from your computer and do the exercise associated with the site you were going to visit. After you complete the exercise, reward yourself by going to the website.
IN ESSENCE:
Burn some fat, not yo’ brain.
QUESTIONS:
1. I already have a girlfriend and/or boyfriend, why would I bother working out?
Endorphins! They’re like free drugs.
2. Can I do this at work?
Sure!
