How hard is it to be the king, man? It must be hard to be surrounded by people not amazing as you. How do you handle the rest of humanity when you are so great?

Rachel Maddow, a guest Wednesday night on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, was asked what question she’d pose to Bill O’Reilly.

What’s the thinking behind this? Is the RNC banking on a complete rehabilitation of W’s image, or are they trying to usher in such a rehabilitaiton themselves? Why does the tone of the sticker seem vaguely sarcastic?  We’re as stumped as you. source

They did it for Reagan, so now it’s Bush’s turn.

“Thanks, W., for the unnecessary wars and deaths and for helping to ruin the economy!”

EDIT: Rachel Maddow did a great piece the other night about the short attention span and memory of Americans which illustrates the above wonderfully.

Before I was in media and before was doing this kind of media, I was a student of political science. I did a doctorate in political science and I studied social movements and how activists bring about change. The one thing that I learned and saw in action, and was never able to prove academically but I believe it with all my heart, is the thing that makes you most likely to win is winning. And that when you are unexpectedly able to achieve something, you not only attract attention, you attract hope—and hope is momentum.
Alex Wagner: 73% of Democrats say we made a mistake going to war in Iraq. 66% of Republicans said we did not make a mistake.
Rachel Maddow: Amazing.

But for Fox News to complain about playing any tape one-too-many times is patently hilarious. It wasn’t that long ago that Fox decided to make Reverend Jeremiah Wright a central figure in the 2008 Presidential campaign. The infamous “chickens are coming home to roost/God-damn America” tape of Wright—Mr. Obama’s pastor for 20 years to that point—was played hundreds of times on the network.

  • Michael Moore: I think this the first time I've been on with the entire primetime MSNBC crew. All of us together at once. And I was sitting here thinking, someone's gonna keep this tape for our military tribunal in 2018.
  • Rachel Maddow: Let's just hope it's a tribunal and not a drone strike.

Yes, the idea of Rachel or Ellen getting hate mail is so upsetting that it made me cry. There, I said it. You cannot hate these amazing human beings.

“Will the Democrats take this as a chance to go on offense?  Will national Democrats take a lesson from Wisconsin Democrats?” —Rachel Maddow.

Outstanding coverage of the FAA shutdown and union rights, plus a look back at Reagan’s firing of air traffic controllers.

Thomas Burr, Washington correspondent for The Salt Lake Tribune:

You know, he said the last time I interviewed him—he talked about how he wants to run a very, you know, civil campaign. He did talk [Tuesday] about the president a little bit, but not in any way that was negative towards him. In fact, he said he respected the president, which is not something you really expect to hear at a Republican announcing.

That‘s very Jon Huntsman.

When he ran his last two campaigns in Utah, in fact, I interviewed the Democratic candidate, he called Huntsman a gentleman.

The first time around in 2004, Scott Matheson was the Democratic candidate. When Huntsman won, Scott Matheson walked a block over to the GOP headquarters, walked in and hugged Huntsman and congratulated him.

This is Jon Huntsman.

Rachel Maddow:

Wow.
