Gordon Brown speaks: The former Prime Minister has been in the news recently by way of the voice mail hacking scandals rocking a number of News International papers in Britain, The Sun and the Sunday Times now the major duo (to say nothing of the now-disbanded News Of The World). Of particular note, a possible advancement in this story — Brown claims that the papers hired people to dig up his private information who had known criminal records. Just by looking at Brown’s posture and demeanor, it’s pretty clear the toll these revelations have taken on him. source

The Murdoch Style, Under Pressure
In the past, Mr. Murdoch has either outlasted his critics or acted swiftly to limit the fallout. And on Wednesday he was in damage-control mode again. The company moved quickly to denounce the hacking and announce its intention to cooperate with the police, but the damage was proving difficult to contain.
There is a growing consensus within the company that Rebekah Brooks, the chief executive of News International and onetime editor who has become the focus of much of the outrage over the hacking, will be forced out of her job, according to people with knowledge of discussions inside News Corporation.
The possibility of firing Ms. Brooks is one that several people close to Mr. Murdoch said he was fiercely resisting because he was loyal to her and viewed the campaign against her as a vendetta by the company’s political enemies.

Murdoch Stumped!

Watch here Fox News’ head honcho Rupert Murdoch stumble and mumble as he can’t name a single Democrat who works for his “Fair and Balanced” “news” network. He had earlier claimed that MSNBC and CNN lean left while employing Democrats and his network hires people from both sides. Thus the fair and you know… He could have named Juan Williams and Bob Beckel I guess, but that would have fit under the rarely used “contributor” category. There are no strong left leaning voices on Fox and Murdoch knows it.

I have to admit I loved watching Murdoch squirm like this, even though I know he doesn’t give a rat’s ass. Murdoch, I believe, is all about dollars and cents. If he truly believed hiring left leaning loudmouths would fill his already deep pockets he would not hesitate for a second in doing so.

…These connections were not enough to keep al-Waleed out of trouble, however, when he suggested immediately after September 11 that US policies might have contributed to the attack. Then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani refused to accept a $10 million disaster relief contribution from the prince — and Fox News applauded Giuliani for his stance.

Since then, al-Waleed has formed multiple connections with Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., the owner of Fox News. In September 2005, he acquired 5.46% of voting shares in News Corp., and just a few months later, when Fox ran coverage of riots in Paris under the banner “Muslim riots,” he allegedly phoned Murdoch and had him change the heading to “civil riots.”

Now the partnership is growing even closer, with News Corp. acquiring a 10% stake in al-Waleed’s media conglomerate,..

BillO would have a field day with this if it were the higher ups at NBC

A few weeks ago, Rupert Murdoch said that Glenn Beck was right when he called Obama a racist (watch here), and since then he has been dodging questions about what exactly he meant…

On Dec 1, Rupert Murdoch spoke at the Federal Trade Commission as part of a conference on the future of journalism. ColorOfChange organizers and others in the audience confronted Murdoch about his comments and asked for an explanation, but as you can see, Murdoch made a quick, silent exit.

Rupert Murdoch could ban Google access to his newspapers' content

Rupert Murdoch says he will remove stories from Google’s search index as a way to encourage people to pay for content online.

In an interview with Sky News Australia, the mogul said that newspapers in his media empire – including the Sun, the Times and the Wall Street Journal – would consider blocking Google entirely once they had enacted plans to charge people for reading their stories on the web.

In recent months, Murdoch his lieutenants have stepped up their war of words with Google, accusing it of “kleptomania” and acting as a “parasite” for including News Corp content in its Google News pages.
