Microsoft Unveils New Xbox 360 Controller
“The new D-pad is a trick new patented design that’s just as we heard from Joystiq: it’s a disc in the normal configuration, but a quick twist raises the crossbars about a quarter-inch, making it eminently more usable. (That sound you hear is joyous weeping.) The analog sticks have also been tweaked to be slightly more concave, and — wonder of wonders — the ABXY buttons are now translucent monochrome instead of colored. Wild. The new matte silver controller will only come bundled with the Play and Charge kit for $64.99 when it launches on November 9 in the States and replaces the existing wireless controller.”—Nilay Patel, Engadget

Xbox 360 Gets Live Sports In HD From ESPN. Canceling My Cable In 5, 4, 3…

The lack of live sports was one of the #1 things holding people back from canceling their cable. Now all XBOX 360 Gold members can get live sports on their XBOX 360. This is huge. Expect a new wave of cord cutting. All led by Disney/ABC — the most progressive mainstream media company out there at the moment.

This is great news for independent producers. Cable companies are going to increasingly embrace Web content and traditional media companies are going to increasingly embrace the Web. The playing field is leveling out — the entrenched competitive advantages of mainstream media are being smoothed away./

Game.  Changer.

Bleep Bloop: Xbox 360 Home Repair

The Xbox 360 is arguably the most advanced gaming system of all time. How hard can it possibly be to fix one with a $10 repair kit from eBay?

The “Red Rings Of Death” have finally payed me a visit. I ducked this problem for sometime. I bought my XBox 360 when they first came out. And even though my initial warranty has expired this problem is covered. But I did learn, while on the phone with XBox/Microsoft yesterday that I’m kind of lucky that this problem happened now. Because if you own your Xbox for more than three years and have not bought the extended warranty than Red Rings or not anything that goes wrong is on you.
