Adventures in time-lapse: Here we have some videos (credit to Mike Olbinski and Blaine Coury) of the colossal dust storms that touched down in Phoenix, Arizona on July 5th. As always, safety is crucial during extreme natural events. We’ll admit, though, it’s hard to watch this footage without feeling wonderment and stark awe towards the natural world. source

Some claim that the Arizona law will bring about racial discrimination profiling. First, let me say, Mr. Speaker, that profiling has always been an important component of legitimate law enforcement. If you can’t profile someone, you can’t use those common sense indicators that are before your very eyes. Now, I think it’s wrong to use racial profiling for the reasons of discriminating against people, but it’s not wrong to use race or other indicators for the sake of identifying that are violating the law.

Ok, I’ve read that twice. I am fearful that if I read it again my head will explode.

Obviously, there is racism and fear involved in the immigration issue and that is, I think, represented by the 32% opposed to a path to citizenship. Phrases like “secure the border” and “illegal immigration” help to polarize the issue. I mean, who isn’t for “securing,” well, anything? Also, “illegal” or “illegals” makes them sound as though they were criminals before they even stepped foot in the USA. So, it looks as though it’s in the hands of the wordsmiths now. Dems need a non-satanic Frank Luntz. If presented the right way it seems to me that immigration reform should pass. The President and the Dems can score on this, not just by adding another accomplishment but also securing the Hispanic vote for years to come.

The Mexicans with their attitudes are the racist ones.” …always “expect handouts” and “soon it’s going to be the United States of Mexico,

Texas, a Jefferson High School English teacher has been “removed from the classroom” for singling out a Latino student wearing a Mexican soccer jersey and publicly insulting him. According to the student, Augustine Ortiz, what began as a discussion about Arizona’s new immigration law (SB-1070) escalated to an anti-Latino, racist attack.
