NRA rejects gun controls, blames violent video games and movies
National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre defiantly blamed violent video games and movies, the media, gun-free zones in schools and other factors during the organization’s first public statement following the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn. last week.
NBC News reports:
LaPierre, who was interrupted by Code Pink protesters twice during a statement (during which he refused to answer questions), said that the students in Newtown might have been better protected had officials at Sandy Hook Elementary been armed. He said that putting a police officer in every single school in America might make schools safer.
“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” he said, asking Congress to immediately appropriate the money to put a police officer in every single school in the country.

WASHINGTON (KABC) — The Secret Service apprehended a man who climbed over the White House fence Tuesday evening. A service spokesman said the man, who was not immediately identified, was taken into custody just steps from the gate by agents who guard the White House complex around the clock.

Soon after Seemona Sumasar started dating Jerry Ramrattan, she had an inkling that something might be wrong.
He said he was a police detective, but never seemed to go to work. He seemed obsessed with “C.S.I.,” “Law & Order” and other television police dramas. About a year after he moved into her house in Queens, their relationship soured. One day, he cornered her, taped her mouth and raped her, she said. Mr. Ramrattan was arrested. But he soon took his revenge, the authorities said. Drawing on his knowledge of police procedure, gleaned from his time as an informer for law enforcement, he accomplished what prosecutors in New York called one of the most elaborate framing plots that they had ever seen. At approximately 2:30am, 56-year-old Lucinda Moyers broke into Trebek’s hotel room and stole cash and a bracelet his mother had given him, stashing it near the ice machine. The 71-year-old star then pursued her on foot, snapping his Achilles tendon in the process, according to ABC7. (Surely while shouting, “don’t mess with Trebek!”)
