David Bianculli says the new PBS American Masters look at Woody Allen is “a smart, sometimes serious study of a smart, sometimes serious filmmaker, and it rivals HBO’s recent two-part George Harrison documentary as the best TV biography of the season.”
David Bianculli explains why the new four-part documentary series called America in Primetime, which premieres this Sunday on PBS, is “the smartest TV show about television I’ve seen in about 20 years.”
Well, looks like I have a PBS date on Sunday.
I have to admit that I have soft spot when it comes to documentaries. Especially documentaries that deal with television and the media.
Did you see the latest investigation from our partners @FRONTLINEPBS? Wow. Check out @Maria_Hinojosa’s radio piece for @PRITheWorld http://bit.ly/FrontlineICE
Just watched this gripping doc on PBS “Better This World” that looks at two friends, Brad Crowder and David McKay, who are sentenced to jail for alledgedly plotting to use molotov cocktails on police officers to protest during the 2008 Republican National Convention.
It also tells the story of alleged agent provocateur Brandon Darby, an activist turned informant, and examines if he entrapped the two boys or simply worked to prevent them from killing police officers.
FRONTLINE : The Man Who Knew
“We don’t know what would have happened if John could have done his job in Yemen and had really had the full back-up to go and to really push in Yemen and what kind of networks he could have exposed. But you know, we do know there were Yemenis involved in the attacks of September 11th. So is it possible that if he had been able to really open up that network and really expose that network, that he could have in some way deterred the tragedy of September 11th? I don’t think we know, but it’s sad because we won’t know the answer to that. But I think there is a fighting — he would have had had a fighting chance if he’d been able to do his job.” - Chris Isham, ABC News
John O’Neill wound up leaving the FBI and went to work, of all places, as head of security at the World Trade Center, and was one of the victims of the attack on 9/11
NPR <3 PBS.
Our new designer Dan shows his love for our public television buddies.
Yes, that is a PBS tattoo. Hardcore. See you Monday, Tumblr.
“Rather than engaging in that spirit, this is an attempt to chill independent journalism.”

In this “Frontline” episode, Martin Smith tells the story of WikiLeaks through interviews with Julian Assange, the Internet activist who published more than half a million classified documents in the spring of 2010, and with the father of Pfc. Bradley E. Manning, the Army intelligence analyst accused of handing them over. - NYTimes

The story behind a courageous band of civil rights activists called the Freedom Riders who in 1961 creatively challenged segregation in the American South.

With Republicans back in charge of the House of Representatives, funding for NPR and PBS is in grave danger. Again.
The Republicans just released their budget proposal, and it zeroes out funding for both NPR and PBS—the worst proposal in more than a decade.
We need to tell Republicans that cutting off funding was unacceptable last time they were in charge, and it’s unacceptable now.
A compiled petition with your individual comment will be presented to your Senators and Representative.
