The president feels, we feel at the White House, this is a distraction, as Congressman Weiner has said himself, his behavior was inappropriate, dishonesty was inappropriate.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney • responding to Weinergate. He didn’t go so far as to say Weiner should resign, though. It seems like the White House is pretty upset about this whole thing, which is understandable. Obama just made a speech about jobs today, and it’s easy to imagine him being fed up with Weiner getting all this press. Not only is Weiner’s situation bugging Democrats, but he’s taking press away from Obama. source (viafollow)

At this point, 9 Democratic leaders have called for Anthony Weiner’s resignation:

Former DNC Chairman and Virginia senate candidate Tim Kaine: “Lying is unforgivable,” Kaine told CBS-19, a Charlottesville, Va., television station.  “Lying publicly about something like this is unforgiveable, and he should resign.”
Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.): “Ahh… It would be fine with me if he did. I mean, ultimately that’s up to him and his constituents and his family, but, um… I think at this point it would probably be a good thing if he would (go) ahead and resign.”
Rep Allyson Scwartz (D-Pa.): “Having the respect of your constituents is fundamental for a member of Congress. In light of Anthony Weiner’s offensive behavior online, he should resign.”
Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.): “I think he should have resigned immediately following the statement that he made …” Ross said after a speech Wednesday afternoon in Pine Bluff. “I’m very disappointed in his actions. I think he should resign immediately, and I think all the appropriate authorities should investigate this matter.”
Rep. Niki Tsongas (D-Mass.): “The congresswoman thinks it would be appropriate for Congressman Weiner to step down,” said Tsongas’s spokeswoman.
Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.): “Enough is enough,” said Donnelly. “It’s time for Congressman Weiner to resign. Everyone should be focused on jobs and the economy and his refusal to do the right thing is a distraction.”
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.): believes Weiner’s resignation would be in the best interest of the constituents and U.S. House. Leahy is in favor of the House Ethics Committee Investigation but would like to see Weiner resign voluntarily, according to a report from The Republic.
Rep. Larry Kissell (D-N.C.): Kissell spokesman Christopher Shuler said Wednesday the Democrat believes Weiner should step down from office.
Rep. Michael H. Michaud (D-Maine): “I am hoping that the congressman will do what’s right for his family, and probably the best decision would be to step down,” said Michaud during a tour of the State House.
Yeah, if only we had a time machine so maybe they could toss Bill Clinton under the bus. Real gutsy guys. This makes me more ashamed of being a Dem than anything Weiner has done. Bleh!

Weinergate Dick Pic Recipient Speaks Out About Becoming “Collateral Damage”
The 21-year-old journalism major says she has never met Weiner or seen any more of his (alleged) junk than the rest of the world has. But, since Weinergate started, she’s been inundated with interview requests from media and her background has been dug up as activists and bloggers hope to turn her into a political football that can be spiked upon Weiner’s career.

Weinergate Dick Pic Recipient Speaks Out About Becoming “Collateral Damage”

The 21-year-old journalism major says she has never met Weiner or seen any more of his (alleged) junk than the rest of the world has. At a time when the GOP is playing games with the debt limit, a member of the Supreme Court is refusing to recuse himself from matters he has a financial interest in, and middle class incomes are stagnant, many want to change the subject. I don’t. This was a prank, and a silly one. I’m focused on my work.

Rep. Anthony Weiner • Trying to draw a line in the sand on this whole Weinergate story, which has certainly gotten a bit crazier over the past day. The Atlantic Wire has a roundup of the story, which has gotten to the point of farce. CNN also got Weiner on camera today, where he seemed at least a little annoyed to be taking the questions. But ultimately, though, this piece of evidence (grabbed by Soup) is the strongest against Weiner doing anything wrong. Also, has anyone noticed how Mediaite has kinda gone crazy over this story? We love the site and everything, but they got a Photoshop expert to analyze the photo. A bit much, eh? They’re not the only ones, but you know what, we’re going to leave this mess alone for a while. The EXIF data is good enough for us. source (viafollow)
